Syllabus

Content

Renewable energy, offshore wind energy, design of foundation systems for offshore wind turbines, design considerations in deep water and under extreme loading  conditions, standards and guidelines for the design of foundations for OWTs, site investigation methods, calculation methods to estimate the wind and wave loads are subjected to the foundation of OWTs, hybrid foundation systems, soil-foundation interaction, scour development and protection methods, foundation response under long-term cyclic loading, the response under monotonic/cyclic/dynamic loading, model test and field test methods for the estimation of the foundation response, numerical simulation methods, response under earthquake loading, case studies of real offshore wind farm projects.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

  • Introduction of the topic during the lectures
  • Seminar: Presentation / discussion on the topic and selected texts
  • Read and comment the selected texts to acquire the fundamental knowledge related to the design methods of foundation systems for OWTs
  • A report on the given topic/project study related to the design of foundations for OWTs
